Description
A 12 year old Glenfarclas from Decadent Drinks, distilled in 2013, at 48.5%, one of 243 bottles. Glenfarclas, the glen of green grass, is a richly sherried Speyside single malt. It has been run by six generations of the Grant family, one of Scotch whisky's last truly independent houses. Direct firing chars the wash a little, lending the rich, nutty depth Glenfarclas is known for.
Worked unhurried through the stillhouse, shaping a rich Speyside body with real weight. It was matured in an Oloroso sherry cask, the wood working deep into the malt. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the rich spirit growing rounder and darker. Long ageing turns the fresh notes towards date, prune and a dark, bittersweet chocolate. Active wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Speyside body.
At a natural 48.5% it is full and rich. Baked apple, honey and a dark chocolate, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is full and fruity, the spirit carrying the cask. Dried fruit, spice and a soft oak see it out. This is a full bodied Speyside single malt of real richness.
