Van Wees bottled this Glendullan, a 13 year old, distilled in 2009, from cask 315683 + 315686, at 46%. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt, one of the larger malt distilleries in the Diageo group. Most of its make has always gone to blends, above all Diageo's Old Parr. Its founder also struck an exclusive supply deal with neighbouring Glenfiddich. Its water rises at the Goats Well spring in the Conval Hills above the distillery.

The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt, for a fresh, fruity spirit with a light body. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak gentle behind the fruity spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend a riper orchard and tropical fruit. The fresh, fruity spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft honey. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit.

Reduced to 46%, it is mellow and fragrant. Pear, apple and a soft spice, lifted by a soft oak. The body is light and fresh, the fruit lifted by a soft oak. The finish runs fresh, grassy and clean. This is a Speyside single malt of easy charm.
