Description
This Glendullan was bottled by Signatory Vintage, a 13 year old, distilled in 2009, from cask 313224, at 54.4%, one of 249 bottles. Glendullan is a Speyside single malt, one of the larger malt distilleries in the Diageo group. Its water rises at the Goats Well spring in the Conval Hills above the distillery. Its founder also struck an exclusive supply deal with neighbouring Glenfiddich.
The spirit was distilled in onion shaped copper pot stills, giving a fresh, lightly fruity Speyside spirit. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin rounding out as esters lend a riper orchard and tropical fruit. A light, clean texture from the spirit carries through the maturation. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the light spirit. Because the long fermentation keeps the spirit fresh and grassy, the cask shows clearly with time.
At 54.4%, undiluted, it is rich and fruity. Pear, apple and a soft spice, lifted by a soft oak. A light orchard fruit and a soft spice give it shape. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is Glendullan's green, lightly fruity Speyside style.
