Description
Glendronach from the distillery, a 16 year old, from 1992, cask 39, at 60.8%, 306 bottles in all. Glendronach is a Highland single malt known for its heavy Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry maturation. It was bought in 2008 by Billy Walker's BenRiach company, who rebuilt it as a heavily sherried single malt. It ferments in Oregon pine washbacks over long fermentations for a full, fruity spirit. By 1862 it had grown into the largest duty paying distillery in the Highlands. It joined William Teacher and Sons in 1960 and became a core malt of the Teacher's blend.
Distilled to a rich, generous cut, giving a deep, full bodied Highland spirit. It was fully matured in an Oloroso sherry butt, the wood deep in the rich spirit. Through oxidative maturity the esters concentrate, the orchard notes turning to raisin, fig and a dark chocolate. The wood frames the spirit without ever stripping the full Highland body.
Bottled at a cask strength 60.8%, it is deep and concentrated. Baked apple, honey and a dark chocolate, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Fig, honey and a dark chocolate fill the middle. Dried fruit, spice and a soft oak see it out. This is a richly sherried Highland single malt.
