Description
Triple Barrel is Glendalough's rolling maturation experiment, whiskey walked through three different casks in sequence. This batch, marked Batch 2 / Madeira 1, is Irish single grain whiskey handled by the Co. Wicklow bonder, matured in ex-bourbon casks, moved to Oloroso sherry butts and finished in Madeira wood, with 498 bottles filled in 2017 for the Dutch market.
Each cask leaves a legible mark. Bourbon oak sets down vanilla and coconut, the Oloroso brings dried fig, raisin and walnut, and the Madeira ends things on burnt sugar and a tangy, wine soaked note. The grain spirit underneath stays light and creamy, so the casks do the talking. Bottled at 42%, it is a friendly, layered pour and an easy study in what wood does to whiskey.
