Description
This German market release of Glendalough Triple Barrel carries cask marking 4 / 5 M.D. and runs the house's three cask relay with single malt whiskey. The Co. Wicklow company, better known for its Irish oak work, here moves malt through ex-bourbon casks, Oloroso sherry and Madeira wood in turn, bottling 1,248 bottles at 42%. The series began life with two casks and grew a third stage as the finishing programme expanded.
The malt takes the wood more darkly than its grain sibling. Honey and malt sweetness open the pour, the sherry stage adds chocolate and dried fruit, and the Madeira leaves a caramelised, faintly smoky warmth on the finish. The texture is round and easy at 42%, built for sipping rather than study, though the three cask structure rewards a slow glass all the same.
