Description
Single pot still is Ireland's own category, a mash of malted and unmalted barley run through copper pot stills at a single distillery, and Glendalough distills this one itself in Co. Wicklow. The 2025 release carries a twist the house rarely shows, peated malt in the mash, bringing soft turf smoke to a style better known for orchard fruit and spice.
Maturation splits between Ex-Bourbon casks and virgin Irish oak, the native wood Glendalough has championed since it began felling single Wicklow trees for its cask programme. Bottled at 46%, it leads with green apple, clove and black pepper on the oily, waxy texture the unmalted barley provides, while the peat drifts underneath as gentle earth and smoke rather than coastal ash. The virgin oak adds fresh sawn sweetness and ginger through the finish.
