Description
Cask number 1 of Glendalough's Batch 2 Tree 6 release, this is a single cask of single pot still whiskey from the Co. Wicklow company that made native oak its signature. Glendalough grew from bonding and finishing into pot still whiskey, and its Irish oak programme ties each release to an individual numbered tree from the Wicklow hills, here tree 6 of the second batch, with this cask bottled for the European market.
Maturation runs through ex-bourbon American oak, giving vanilla, coconut and orchard fruit a sturdy base beneath the pot still character, that peppery, gingery prickle from unmalted barley in the mash with a creamy, faintly oily texture. Bottled at 43%, it keeps the balance the house aims for, sweet American oak up front, green apple and clove through the middle, and a long barley sugar finish.
