Description
Cask RC 1493 belongs to Glendalough's Single Cask range, the Co. Wicklow bonder's playground for unusual wood. Sourced Irish grain whiskey matured in ex-bourbon and French oak was given a finishing spell in a cask that previously held XO grade Calvados, the apple brandy of Normandy, before bottling in 2023 in a run of 700 bottles for the Dutch market.
The Calvados cask suits grain whiskey unusually well, layering baked apple, cider warmth and fine oak spice over the spirit's natural toffee and vanilla. French oak tightens the texture with a dry, elegant grip that keeps the sweetness honest. Bottled at 42%, it drinks softly for all that influence, orchard fruit running through the finish, and it stands as one of the more distinctive casks in the series.
