Description
Cask RC1111 belongs to Glendalough's Single Cask series, sourced Irish malt finished in a Grand Cru Burgundy cask and bottled in 2022 for the European market, 500 bottles at 42%. The Wicklow house operates in the bonder tradition, its own stills young and its reputation built on steering mature Irish whiskey through wine and brandy wood few competitors use.
After primary ageing in an ex-bourbon barrel, the whiskey took its finish from French oak soaked in Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy's top vineyards. The wine cask lends red cherry, plum and a dusting of cocoa over the malt's honey and vanilla, with a soft tannic pull in place of heavy oak. At 42% it stays elegant rather than dense, red fruited and gently spiced through a medium finish.
