Description
Glendalough Double Barrel Cask Strength takes the company's flagship single grain and bottles it undiluted at 61.3%. The recipe is unchanged, sourced Irish grain whiskey matured twice over, first in American bourbon barrels and then in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, the double maturation that gives the range its name, but nothing is softened on the way to the glass.
At full strength the grain's sweetness turns muscular, toffee and vanilla thickening into butterscotch, banana and honeyed malt, while the Oloroso wood pushes walnut, raisin and dark spice forward. Water opens it considerably, releasing coconut and citrus from the bourbon wood. It is a rare thing, an Irish single grain with real intensity, made for drinkers who like the style but want it at cask weight.
