Description
Glendalough has run Calvados XO finishes through its Single Cask series for years, and cask RC 2423, bottled in 2025 for the European market, is among the most recent. The base is blended Irish whiskey matured in ex-bourbon wood, sourced and shaped by the Wicklow bonder, then moved into a cask that held long aged Norman apple brandy.
The pairing works because both spirits speak orchard. Baked apple, pear skin and cider spice from the Calvados cask settle into the blend's soft vanilla, honey and cereal sweetness, with a light French oak tannin keeping the sugars in check. Bottled at 42%, it is built for easy drinking rather than weight, bright fruit up front, a creamy middle and a crisp apple and spice finish in the house style of the series.
