Description
Glendalough built its name on inventive cask work, sourcing Irish whiskey and finishing it in wood few others touch, and the Single Cask series is where that shows most clearly. This single malt matured under the influence of a Grand Cru Burgundy cask, single cask RC 1138, bottled in 2022 for the German market in an edition of 500 bottles.
Burgundy's Pinot Noir casks give a particular set of tones, red cherry, plum skin and a cocoa dust dryness, and here they settle over the honeyed malt and vanilla of the base whiskey. At 42% it stays soft and approachable in the house style, more about fruit and gentle wine tannin than oak weight, with a finish of red berries, milk chocolate and light baking spice.
