Description
Glendalough's 25 Years Old sits at the top of the Wicklow bonder's range, mature Irish malt laid down long before the company existed, selected and finished under the round tower branding of the monastic valley. This is single cask 3/3, bottled in 2019 for Europe at 46%, an edition of 380 bottles.
The whiskey drew its quarter century from bourbon and Oloroso sherry barrels working side by side, then took a finishing period in Irish oak, a wood almost vanished from coopering that Glendalough helped bring back. Bourbon wood keeps vanilla and honey in play, the sherry brings fig, raisin and walnut, and the native oak adds a toasty, spiced top note. Age shows in the texture, dense and rounded, and in a long finish of dried fruit, dark chocolate and polished oak.
