Glendalough operates as a bonder and finisher in the Wicklow mountains, naming its whiskeys for the monastic valley of St Kevin, and its aged malts are sourced Irish stock brought to shape through bold cask choices. This 13 Years Old, bottled in 2017, sits among the house's pioneering work with Japanese Mizunara oak.

The malt spends its long first act in ex-bourbon barrels before finishing in Mizunara puncheons, a rare and famously difficult oak that gives sandalwood, incense and a drying spice over the green fruit, malt extract and vanilla beneath. At 46% the oak stays aromatic rather than bitter, an east meets west finish that few Irish bottlings had attempted at the time.
