Description
A distillery release of Glencadam, at 46%. Glencadam is a gentle, fruity Highland malt of orchard and tropical fruit. Its single malts are bottled at 46 percent, without chill filtration or added colour. It was bought by Angus Dundee Distillers in 2003, who also own Tomintoul, ending a three year closure. Its stills carry lyne arms angled upward, raising the reflux for a lighter, fruitier spirit. Most of its make long went to blends; bottled single malt Glencadam was rare until a full range arrived.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt, giving a light, clean, creamy Highland spirit. It was fully matured in a Pinot Noir cask, the wood deep in the fruity spirit. With no age statement, vanillin reads as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over the light, fruity spirit. Long ageing turns the fresh pear towards tropical fruit, honey and a gentle spice.
Bottled at 46%, it is light and creamy. Pear drops, melon and a soft barley sugar, with a soft red cherry and an earthy edge from the cask. Melon, pear and a creamy honey fill the middle. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a light, fruity Highland single malt.
