Description
This official Glencadam, at 46%. Glencadam is a Highland single malt, founded in 1825 in Angus, in the eastern Highlands. It is the only distillery in Angus, and the last in Brechin since North Port closed in 1983. Most of its make long went to blends; bottled single malt Glencadam was rare until a full range arrived.
It was distilled from unpeated malt, giving a light, clean, creamy Highland spirit. A Pedro Ximenez cask held it, drawing the light spirit on over the years. With no age statement, vanillin reads as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over the light, fruity spirit. A soft, creamy texture from the spirit carries through the maturation. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the light Highland spirit. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the light spirit. Maturation runs slow and even in the cool, racked Highland warehouses.
Bottled at 46%, it is light and creamy. A light orchard fruit and a green herb, with raisin, date and treacle from the cask. Melon, pear and a creamy honey fill the middle. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a fresh, fruity Highland single malt.
