Description
A 17 year old Glencadam, a distillery bottling, at 46%, 2765 bottles in all. Glencadam is a Highland single malt whose upward angled lyne arms give a light, fruity spirit. Its single malts are bottled at 46 percent, without chill filtration or added colour. It was founded in 1825 by the merchant George Cooper, soon after the Excise Act made licensed distilling viable.
It was drawn from a long fermentation, for the delicate, fruity make Glencadam is known for. After ex-Bourbon maturation it was finished in a Port cask, the wine working into the delicate spirit. Into oxidative maturity, slow air builds tropical esters of mango and pineapple over a creamy depth. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit. Maturation runs slow and even in the cool, racked Highland warehouses. The clean, fruity spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a creamy honey.
At 46% it is fruity, creamy and soft. A delicate, tropical fruit with a soft body, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. The body is light and creamy, the fruit lifted by a soft oak. A long, fruity finish carries a creamy honey. This is a fruity, easy going Highland single malt.
