Description
This Glenburgie was bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company, a 27 year old, distilled in 1995, at 54.3%, one of 385 bottles. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt, owned by Chivas Brothers and one of the larger Speyside distilleries. It was rebuilt in 1881 by Charles Chree Doig, the architect behind so many Speyside stillhouses. The old distillery was demolished and rebuilt in 2004, only the little stone office left standing. It was founded in 1810 as Kilnflat by William Paul, taking the Glenburgie name in 1878.
Distilled from unpeated malt, building a light malt of orchard fruit and fresh grass. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. Through the evaporative decades the esters fold into mango, beeswax and a waxy honey. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt. The spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft beeswax.
At its natural 54.3% it is full and fruity. Pear, honey and a creamy oak, lifted by a soft oak. A light orchard fruit and a soft spice give it shape. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is Glenburgie's bright, orchard led Speyside character.
