Description
This Glenburgie comes from Signatory Vintage, the Edinburgh house that bottles at Edradour above Pitlochry, a 23 year old, distilled in 1995, from cask 6534 + 6536, at 55.2%, one of 415 bottles. Glenburgie is a clean, fruity Speyside malt, light and fresh in the glass. It was founded in 1810 as Kilnflat by William Paul, taking the Glenburgie name in 1878.
The spirit was distilled in tall onion shaped pot stills, for a light body with a gentle, waxy edge. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. Through the evaporative decades the esters fold into mango, beeswax and a waxy honey. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the Speyside spirit. The spirit deepens with time, the cask drawing out a soft beeswax. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and waxier with time.
At its natural 55.2% it is full and fruity. A delicate, soft malt with a waxy edge, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run baked apple, a light citrus and a soft honey. It finishes light, fresh and faintly waxy. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
