Description
A 22 year old Glenburgie from Gordon and MacPhail, distilled in 1998, from cask 12601101, at 57%, one of 665 bottles. Glenburgie is a clean, fruity Speyside malt, light and fresh in the glass. Its water is drawn from a local spring near the distillery. The old distillery was demolished and rebuilt in 2004, only the little stone office left standing.
It was distilled from unpeated malt, shaping a fine, clean malt with a floral lift. An Oloroso cask held it, drawing the light spirit on over the years. In the oxidative, evaporative years the spirit concentrates to tropical fruit, honey and a waxy, candle wax depth. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the spirit. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and waxier with time.
Bottled at a cask strength 57%, it is concentrated. Baked apple, grass and a light honey, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run baked apple, a light citrus and a soft honey. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is Glenburgie's bright, orchard led Speyside character.
