Description
This Glenburgie was bottled by Dràm Mòr, a 16 year old, distilled in 2009, from cask 700148, at 56.7%, one of 203 bottles. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt from near Alves, founded in 1810 as Kilnflat. It has belonged to Chivas Brothers, part of Pernod Ricard, since 2005.
The spirit was drawn from a long fermentation, for a light body with a gentle, waxy edge. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a soft honey over the orchard fruit. Into oxidative maturity, slow air builds ripe esters of apple and a light tropical note over a waxy depth. First fill wood drives the maturation, the cask clear in the spirit. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt. Years in oak deepen the spirit to old gold, the body growing rounder and waxier with time. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and a soft coconut over the fruit.
At 56.7%, undiluted, it is rich and waxy. Green apple, citrus and a waxy note, lifted by a soft oak. The mouthfeel is light, a faint waxiness carrying the fruit. The finish runs delicate, fruity and waxy. This is a fruity Speyside malt rarely seen on its own.
