Description
A 14 year old Glenburgie from Chorlton Whisky, at 53.9%, one of 149 bottles. Glenburgie is a Speyside single malt, a blending malt rarely seen on its own and largely the work of independents. It has been a core malt of the Ballantine's blend since Hiram Walker bought it in 1936. The old distillery was demolished and rebuilt in 2004, only the little stone office left standing. Its water is drawn from a local spring near the distillery.
The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt, for a soft, fruity spirit with a waxy thread. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin and a soft coconut under the malt. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the apple softening towards a waxy honey. Active wood frames the fruit without ever crowding the Speyside spirit. Built for the blender's art, the make ages with quiet grace as a single malt. A soft waxiness from the spirit carries a thread through the maturation.
At a natural 53.9% it is full and waxy. A delicate, soft malt with a waxy edge, over a gentle, creamy oak. It is soft and gently waxy, the light spirit shining through. The finish is light, fruity and clean. This is the fragrant blending malt of Alves.
