Gordon and MacPhail, the Elgin grocer laying down casks on South Street since 1895, bottled this Glenburgie, distilled in 2002, from cask 4782, at 48%, one of 264 bottles. Glenburgie is a light, fruity Speyside malt of orchard fruit, grass and a soft waxy thread. It sits near Alves in Moray, east of Forres, in the heart of Speyside. It was founded in 1810 as Kilnflat by William Paul, taking the Glenburgie name in 1878.

The spirit was run slowly off the spirit still, for a soft, fruity spirit with a waxy thread. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the fruit. In integration coconut and vanilla knit with the malt, the apple softening towards a waxy honey. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards beeswax, tropical fruit and a gentle spice. A soft waxiness from the spirit carries a thread through the maturation.

Bottled at a cask strength 48%, it is concentrated. A soft, orchard led sweetness with a floral lift, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A light orchard fruit and a soft spice give it shape. A fresh finish closes on apple and a soft oak. This is a fruity Speyside malt rarely seen on its own.
