Description
This GlenAllachie comes from Signatory Vintage, the Edinburgh house that bottles at Edradour above Pitlochry, a 13 year old, distilled in 2009, from cask 900853, at 66.9%, one of 613 bottles. GlenAllachie is a rich, sherried Speyside malt from Aberlour, built on full bodied spirit and active casks. Its stills were doubled from two to four within months of opening, the lyne arms angled down for a fuller spirit. Its water is the Lochnagar Burn, drawn down from the slopes of Ben Rinnes.
It was drawn from a thick, full bodied wash, giving a full bodied Speyside spirit. An Oloroso cask held it, drawing the rich spirit on over the years. By the integrating teens the raw notes fade and esters build, the rich spirit growing rounder and darker. Maturation runs slow and even in the on site dunnage warehouses at Aberlour. Active first fill wood drives the maturation, the cask deep in the malt.
Bottled at a cask strength 66.9%, it is deep and concentrated. A deep, dark sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run dried fruit, dark sugar and a warm spice. The close is rich and dark, fruit over a warm spice. This is the sherry led malt of Aberlour.
