Glen Scotia 22 Years Old 1992 Run To The Stills (The Whiskyman)

A 22 year old Glen Scotia from the bottler The Whiskyman, distilled in 1992, bottled at 51.3%, one of 162 bottles. Glen Scotia is a coastal Campbeltown malt sitting between heavier Springbank and lighter Glengyle. It is one of only three working distilleries left in Campbeltown, with Springbank and Glengyle.

Worked through the stills for an oily, coastal make, for the salty, oily make Glen Scotia is known for. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla over the brine. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings dried fruit, a salted toffee and a waxy, oily depth. The cool, salt laden Campbeltown air gives a slow, coastal maturation in the warehouses. Maturation in the Campbeltown warehouses, by the sea, lends a coastal edge. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. It runs a single pair of stills and shell and tube condensers for a slow, oily make.

At cask strength 51.3% it is full bodied. Baked apple, brine and a creamy oil, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A dried fruit and a soft oak give it depth. The finish is long, oily and salted. This is one of the last three Campbeltown malts.
