Description
An official release of Glen Moray, an 8 year old, from 2014, at 60%, 1950 bottles in all. Glen Moray, founded in 1897 in a former brewery, is one of Speyside's best loved malts. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style.
The spirit was run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. In these extractive early years the oak gives vanillin as vanilla and oak lactones as coconut over bright green apple and pear. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit.
At cask strength 60% it is full bodied. Apple, pear and a soft vanilla, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
