Glen Moray 7 Years Old 2015 Cask #9517 (Whiskymax)

From the bottler Whiskymax, a 7 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 2015, from cask 9517, bottled at 55.5%, one of 468 bottles. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.

It was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. Finished in a Port cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. Young and extractive, the cask sheds vanillin (vanilla) and toasted sugars (light caramel) over the clean, fruity spirit. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore.

At a hearty 55.5% it carries real weight. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. Apple, pear and a soft oak see out the finish. This is an approachable Speyside single malt from Elgin.
