Description
A Glen Moray of a 13 year old chosen by the Italian bottler Wilson and Morgan, distilled in 2007, from cask 5907/08/09, bottled at 48%, one of 774 bottles. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
Drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. In integration lactones (coconut) and vanillin (vanilla) knit with the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and toffee. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt.
At a hearty 48% it carries real weight. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Soft orchard fruit and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
