Description
A 25 year old Glen Moray, a distillery bottling, from 1986, at 43%, 3482 bottles in all. Glen Moray is a light, sweet Speyside malt, founded in 1897 on the banks of the River Lossie. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.
It was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the light spirit. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried fruit, beeswax and a soft honey. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.
At 43% it is smooth and fruity. Baked apple, vanilla and a creamy toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
