Description
A 15 year old Glen Moray, a distillery bottling, from 2004, cask 339, at 46%. Glen Moray is a Speyside malt from Elgin, the heart of the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.
The spirit was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the apple turning honeyed and a soft dried fruit creeping in. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
At 46% it is fresh, fruity and clean. Baked apple, vanilla and a creamy toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
