Description
Glen Moray from the distillery, a 7 year old, from 2011, cask 6000438, at 46%. Glen Moray is a Speyside malt from Elgin, the heart of the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
The spirit was run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. Maturation finished in a Port cask, layered over the light Glen Moray make. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit fresh, light and fruity. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice.
At 46% it is fresh, fruity and clean. A clean, fruity sweetness, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
