This official Glen Moray, a 5 year old, from 2016, at 46.3%, 1637 bottles in all. Glen Moray is a light, easy Speyside single malt with a long line of cask finishes. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s.

The spirit was distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the light spirit. At an extractive age eugenol lends a clove note and lactones a coconut, the spirit fresh, light and fruity. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.

At 46.3% it is fresh, fruity and clean. Baked apple, vanilla and a creamy toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
