Description
An official release of Glen Moray, a 15 year old, from 2006, at 46.3%, 1788 bottles in all. Glen Moray, founded in 1897 in a former brewery, is one of Speyside's best loved malts. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.
It was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the orchard fruit. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the apple turning honeyed and a soft dried fruit creeping in. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish.
At 46.3% it is light and soft. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
