Description
An official release of Glen Moray, a 16 year old, from 2006, at 46.3%, 1736 bottles in all. Glen Moray is a light, sweet Speyside malt, founded in 1897 on the banks of the River Lossie. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings.
The spirit was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a soft honey. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the fruit. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. Glen Moray has long made an accessible, fruity Speyside in the classic style.
At an approachable 46.3% it is light and easy. Apple, pear and a soft vanilla, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Soft orchard fruit and a creamy vanilla sit behind the cask. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
