Description
Glen Moray from the distillery, at 40%. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings.
The spirit was run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, building a light, accessible character of orchard fruit and vanilla. A Port cask shaped the finish, over the fruity Glen Moray spirit. Without an age statement, vanillin sweetness and an orchard fruit point to good years in oak. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt.
Bottled at 40%, it is rounded. A light, orchard fruit and toffee, with red berry, plum and a dry spice from the cask. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. It finishes light, fresh and fruity. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
