Description
This Glen Moray was bottled by Phil and Simon Thompson, a 29 year old, distilled in 1991, bottled at 47.5%, one of 230 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. Most of its malt matures first in American oak ex-Bourbon before any cask finish.
Drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. In the oxidative, evaporative years concentration brings dried fruit, honey and a waxy depth over the apple. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time.
At 47.5%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. The finish runs light, fruity and clean. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
