The bottler Chorlton Whisky bottled this Glen Moray, a 27 year old, bottled at 44.6%, one of 130 bottles. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.

It was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, a soft vanilla beneath the orchard fruit. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried fruit, beeswax and a soft honey. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way.

Reduced to 44.6%, it is mellow. Green apple, honey and a gentle oak, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is an approachable Speyside single malt from Elgin.
