Description
A Glen Moray of a 26 year old chosen by the Huntly bottler Duncan Taylor, distilled in 1988, from cask 708671, bottled at 45.7%, one of 90 bottles. Glen Moray is a light, easy Speyside single malt with a long line of cask finishes. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
The spirit was drawn off the stills for a clean, fruity Speyside spirit, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. An Oloroso cask shaped the finish, over the fruity Glen Moray spirit. Through the evaporative decades the spirit concentrates, esters folding into dried fruit, beeswax and a soft honey. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin. Refill oak lets the light, fruity Glen Moray character lead the way. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes.
At a natural 45.7% it is full and fruity. Baked apple, vanilla and a creamy toffee, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. Beneath it run green apple, pear and a soft vanilla. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
