This official Glen Moray, a 12 year old, from 2006, cask 5348, at 46%. Glen Moray is a Speyside malt from Elgin, the heart of the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
Made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, building the fresh Glen Moray style. Maturation finished in a Sauternes cask, layered over the light Glen Moray make. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the light, fruity spirit growing rounder. The accessible, fruity make is the base for the distillery's many cask finishes. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. The cool Speyside air gives a slow, even maturation in the Glen Moray warehouses at Elgin.
At an approachable 46% it is light and easy. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with honeyed apricot and a candied citrus from the cask. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is a fresh, fruity Speyside single malt.
