Description
From the bottler Whisky-Doris, a 20 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 1996, from cask 7005873, bottled at 52.3%, one of 311 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from La Martiniquaise, light and approachable in style. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.
Distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. Finished in an Oloroso cask, the wood building over the fruity, light spirit. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the apple turning honeyed and a soft dried fruit creeping in. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice.
At cask strength 52.3% it is full bodied. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. The finish is long, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
