Description
Glen Moray from the distillery, a 16 year old, at 40%. Glen Moray is a fresh, fruity Speyside malt from the town of Elgin in Moray. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.
Worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. Most Glen Moray begins in American oak ex-Bourbon, the base for its cask finishes. At oxidative maturity aldehydes lend a nutty edge while ellagitannins add a gentle, drying grip over the fruit. A gentle maturation suits the light make, the orchard fruit growing richer with time. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
Reduced to 40%, it is mellow. A fresh, fruity sweetness, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A baked apple and a gentle spice lift it. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
