Description
A 15 year old Glen Moray from the Glasgow bottler Hunter Laing, distilled in 2007, from cask HL 17592, bottled at 50%, one of 214 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside malt from Elgin, the heart of the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most.
It was distilled from unpeated malt in copper pot stills, for the light, fruity make Glen Moray is known for. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, oak lactones lending vanilla and a little coconut. Through oxidative maturity esters concentrate, the apple turning honeyed and a soft dried fruit creeping in. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. River Lossie water and the tall stills give the light Glen Moray make. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.
At a hearty 50% it carries real weight. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is a light Speyside malt from the banks of the Lossie.
