Description
From the bottler Tales and Oak, a 14 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 2008, bottled at 50.3%, one of 89 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt and a pioneer of wine cask finishing. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
The spirit was distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body softer and the fruit riper. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most. The light, fruity make takes cask flavour well while keeping its apple and pear. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit.
At 50.3%, undiluted, it is deep and fruity. Green apple, vanilla and a soft honey, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. The close is light and clean, fruit over a gentle oak. This is Glen Moray's clean, accessible Speyside style.
