Description
From the bottler Drm Mr, a 13 year old Glen Moray, from cask 800597, bottled at 56%, one of 222 bottles. Glen Moray is a light, easy Speyside single malt with a long line of cask finishes. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.
It was worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, the oak quiet behind the light spirit. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the light, fruity spirit growing rounder. A pioneer of wine cask finishing, Glen Moray has long layered fruit over its light malt. It is known for excellent value, with age statements priced more keenly than most. Vanillin and oak lactones from the wood lend vanilla and coconut over the fruit. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit.
Bottled at a cask strength 56%, it is rich. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. Pear, honey and a creamy toffee fill the middle. A long, fruity finish carries a green apple and a soft spice. This is a Speyside single malt of real value.
