Description
A 12 year old Glen Moray, a distillery bottling, at 40%. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. Its light, fresh spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum.
The spirit was made on River Lossie water and condensed in shell and tube condensers, for a light, easy spirit with a soft malt. A bourbon barrel held it, the wood adding a light vanilla and a soft honey. Integration folds eugenol (clove) and vanillin (vanilla) into the malt, the body softer and the fruit riper. The clean, fruity spirit shows the cask clearly, vanilla and fruit to the fore. It was a pioneer of wine cask finishing, working with Chardonnay casks back in the 1990s. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie.
At 40% it is fresh, fruity and clean. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The mouthfeel is light, the fruit carried on a clean body. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is the easy, fruity malt of Elgin.
