Description
From the Elgin house Gordon and MacPhail, a 12 year old Glen Moray, distilled in 2013, from cask 2848, bottled at 60.4%, one of 306 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt from Elgin, known for its light, fruity and accessible style. Its water is drawn from the River Lossie, which runs past the distillery at Elgin.
Distilled light and fruity in the Glen Moray style, for a clean make of orchard fruit and a soft honey. An Oloroso cask shaped the finish, over the fruity Glen Moray spirit. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. Long ageing turns the fresh apple towards dried fruit, honey and a soft spice. The light spirit suits a wide range of cask finishes, from sherry to rum. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings.
At a natural 60.4% it is full and fruity. A light, orchard fruit and toffee, with dried fruit, fig and walnut from the cask. It is fresh and fruity, the light spirit shining through. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray, a pioneer of cask finishing.
