Description
This Glen Moray was bottled by Lady of the Glen, a 12 year old, distilled in 2008, from cask 2958, bottled at 56.6%, one of 260 bottles. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt known for vanilla, honey and orchard fruit. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand.
It was run through the stills on River Lossie water for a light make, giving a clean, sweet Speyside spirit. A refill bourbon hogshead held it, keeping the fresh, fruity character to the fore. Through integration spirit and wood marry, vanillin settling into a rounded vanilla as ethyl esters lend a riper apple and pear. Years in oak round the spirit, the green apple deepening to honey and dried fruit. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie. Its make is a key malt in the Cutty Sark and Label 5 blends.
Bottled at a cask strength 56.6%, it is rich. A light, orchard fruit and toffee, with a soft vanilla from the oak. The texture is light and clean, the fruit lifted by vanilla. A fresh finish ends on apple and a soft oak. This is an approachable Speyside single malt from Elgin.
