Description
A Glen Moray of a 12 year old chosen by the bottler The Daily Dram, distilled in 2007, bottled at 52.1%. Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt and a pioneer of wine cask finishing. It was founded in 1897 in the converted Elgin West Brewery, on the banks of the River Lossie.
Worked through the stills for a light, sweet make, building the fresh Glen Moray style. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, vanillin lending vanilla under the apple. By the integrating teens congeners fade and esters build, the light, fruity spirit growing rounder. Active wood frames the fruit without overwhelming the light Speyside spirit. It runs a large still house at Elgin, expanded over the years to meet demand. It closed in 1910 and reopened in 1923 under Macdonald and Muir of Glenmorangie. It was built on Gallow Hill at Elgin, the old site of the town's hangings. Maturation in the bonded warehouses at Elgin is slow and steady.
Bottled at a cask strength 52.1%, it is rich. Pear, honey and a soft malt, with a soft vanilla from the oak. A soft fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. The finish is rounded, fruity and clean. This is Glen Moray's clean, accessible Speyside style.
