Foursquare Rum Sponge No. 14 2000

Decadent Drinks bottled this under its Rum Sponge label, the fourteenth in the series, a twenty one year old Foursquare from the 2000 vintage out of Richard Seale's St Philip distillery. It is a single blended Barbados rum, pot and column married in the island style, bottled at cask strength and without added sugar in keeping with Foursquare's no-additives approach.

Matured in ex-bourbon oak, the long tropical ageing gives a lush, mature profile, with dried fruit, allspice, coconut and caramel on the nose and a palate of fruit, caramel, coconut and chocolate. The finish turns roasted and woody with spice and banana. At 49% it drinks richly while keeping the recognisable Foursquare signature of coconut, vanilla and brown sugar intact despite the modest strength, a generous, well-aged Bajan that shows how gracefully the house style carries two decades in the cask.
